Unpacking Appropriation in Wellness w/Taina
SUN AUG 21, 2022, 5 - 7 PM PDT

Social justice change-making operates on shared values of challenging limiting beliefs, breaking-down divisive barriers, and repairing harm when possible. As Health & Wellness Industry leaders, educators, and practitioners, we will use a social justice framework to consider the sources, emblems, and power dynamics of cultural appropriation and the embedded nature of colonialism, capitalism, and patriarchy that create separation and harm in the entirety of our lived experience.

With a concentration on reparation, advocacy and community building, in this workshop we will engage the following questions:

  • What is cultural appropriation?
  • How does it show up in sacred spaces, wellness trends, yoga practices, and “conscious” capitalism?
  • As teachers, leaders, health practitioners, and active students, what can we do about it – individually and collectively?

Calling-in compassion, wisdom, and discernment, we will explore these topics through brave discussion, journaling exercises, and meditative visualization.
